Spurr Township is located in Baraga County in the west/central part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Spurr Township is an area of many lakes. The town of Three Lakes is the main population center with lakes Ruth, George, Beaufort and Petticoat nearby. Craig Lake State Park lies to the north with its own chain of lakes. A multitude of other lakes dot the landscape. The entire area is a popular destination for campers, hikers, boaters, fishermen, hunters, snowmobilers and more.
Spurr Township was organized in 1868 as a part of Houghton County, and in 1875 Baraga County was carved from the southeast part of Houghton County. Spurr was one of the four original townships in this new county. The name Spurr derives from the Spurr Mountain Mine (Iron ore) which had been named for John C. Spurr, an early prospector.
